Sikhote-alin Meteorites

The appearance of  Sikhote-Alin Meteorites is typical of what the general public believes a meteorite should look like.   They are covered in Regmaglypts (thumbprints) and have a color similar to the barrel of a gun.  If you only want to own one meteorite, this is the one you should choose.

This iron meteorite fell on Feb. 12, 1947 in the Sikhote-alin Mountains of Eastern Siberia, Russia.  It is the largest observed meteorite fall in history with over 23000 kg leaving a smoke trail which could be seen in the sky for hours.    A  Russian artist,  P.I. Medvedev was sitting in his window starting a sketch when the fireball appeared.  He immediately began drawing what he saw.  This painting was reproduced on a 1957 Russian postage stamp commemorating the 10th anniversary of the event.  These stamps are offered here also.

Two different types of Sikhote-alin meteorites are available to the collector.   The first type is torn, twisted, sharp edged pieces and are commonly referred to as shrapnel, since they are like twisted bomb fragments.  The second, and more desirable type, are the strikingly beautiful regmaglypted individuals which I offer for sale below.  For a complete history and examples of classic types of sikhote-alin meteorites click here.

The Sikhote-alin meteorites that I offer here represent the finest quality available today.  I purchase directly from Russian suppliers and I skim only the best off the top when choosing specimens to buy.   I do not sell any specimens which I would not be proud to have in my own collection.  Any purchase will be refunded for any reason.

Payment may be sent via check or money order.  I can accept credit card payments through the use of Pay Pal (follow banner at the bottom of the page to sign up).  Included with each specimen is an identifier card and a full-color informational brochure.

All of the meteorites are shown  from two sides to try to give you a feeling of how they really look.
